Founded in 2007, Carrboro High School has a fairly new basketball program. The Jaguars have had to work hard to create a name for themselves against older schools with a tradition of excellence in prep sports.

The team has practice every day after school for a couple of hours. The coaches work them hard, and when their expectations are not met, they have been known to throw the boys out of practice. It's tough love for the team.

Trai Sharp goes in for a basket at Northwood High School in Pittsboro. The gym was packed on that Friday night with Carrboro fans making the drive to support their team in the conference championship.

Head Coach John Alcox goes through a play with a team during halftime. With a military background, Alcox appears serious and stoic, but he cares for his team deeply. Over time, he has developed close relationships with each of his boys. His son, Martin Alcox, is a player on the team.

Carrboro fights for the ball. They are relentless in during every game. Their coaches have said they have never seen a harder working group of boys and they are extremely proud of how far they have come.

The team stretches and prepares themselves before a game. They take care of one another and treat one another as brothers. They are a tight knit team and family, and before every game take the opportunity to spend time together as a group. They are always together.

The team celebrates after their 63-55 win against Northwood. Carrboro wins the conference championship with a record of 16-0. They set a new record for Carrboro High School, and they are set as the number one seed for the state playoffs.

The boys always have a sense of humor and never let an opportunity pass to joke around with one another.

Whether it is before the start of the game, during halftime, during time-outs, in the locker room, or after the game, the team always comes together as a support system.

The boys are there for each other and help one another up. They also always show good sportsmanship by helping players up from the other team.

McLean Phipps goes in for a basketball during the second round of state playoffs against Bunn High School. The Jaguars knew from the beginning that Bunn was a tough opponent and it was obvious throughout the game.

Unfortunately, during the second round of state playoffs against Bunn High School, the team lost 67-65. It was a close and emotional game througout. During halftime, the coaches and players both said, "we don't want this to be over yet," but lost it in the last second of the game.

The team ends with a 23-4 overall record. Despite all of their accomplishments this year, the team left feeling dejected. They are a proud team though, and they made it farther than any team before them.
